ICE RESCUE TRAINING

PRACTICAL ICE RESCUE

This course is a White Bear Rescue Training Center original, and we're proud that so many of our students tell us that is the finest one day ice rescue course in North America. It is our depth of experience in the field that led us to develop Practical Ice Rescue. It provides the information and training actually needed during rescues. We don't waste your time talking about statistics and theory. Over the past few years, hundreds of firefighters and sheriffs rescue squads have received training certification through our course.

Here's how it works: We begin in the classroom, where we discuss the physical and emotional environments of ice rescue, hypothermia, specialized equipment and operational plans.  We analyze real-life ice rescues, and failures, from video archives.  This session lasts from 8:00 a.m. until around 12:30 p.m.

After lunch, we go on-site. Each participant acts as both a rescuer and a victim. In keeping with the spirit of the course subject, we do this no matter what type of weather we are experiencing that day. Our polar bear logo is right on target! You should see participants frolicking in the water even when the wind chill hovers around -50F. degrees !

Practical Ice Rescue is designed to include members of EMS as well as other rescue personnel, since patient assessment and handling are critical factors in successful rescues involving hypothermic victims. You'll be glad to know that the course counts toward continuing education credits with the National Registry for EMS.
